LEADER Programme

LEADER provides grants for projects that will benefit the rural areas and communities of West Lothian. The funding programme will run from 2008 to 2011.

LEADER is part of the new Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP) aimed at promoting economic and community development within rural areas.

LEADER stands for: Liaison Entre Actions pour le Développement de L'Economie Rurale (links between actions for the development of the rural economy).

LATEST NEWS

  • A recent information session on funding opportunities held at Howden Park Centre, Livingston was well received by local voluntary and community groups.
  • Currently, eight projects have been successful in obtaining West Lothian LEADER funding.
  • A community grants funding database, part funded by LEADER is now available at www.open4community.info/westlothian.
 

What is LEADER?

LEADER is a bottom up method of delivering support for rural development and will be aimed primarily at small scale, community driven projects that are piloted and innovative in nature.

LEADER in West Lothian Blacksmith at work will be administered through a Local Action Group comprising representatives from voluntary, community youth and women's groups together with representatives from the main public sector bodies.

West Lothian Local Action Group has chosen two themes for its LEADER programme.

These are:

Target groups include:

  • Young people
  • Women
  • Micro-enterprises (small firms)
  • The young long-term unemployed
  • Community Development Trusts
  • Social Economy organisations
