Shop Occupancy Rates

Shop occupancy rates provide one measure of the prosperity of West Lothian.

Shop Occupancy

Based on the the number of shop units occupied as a percentage of total stock for each of West Lothian's six town centres, the table below provides a comparison between the latest month (information available), October 2008, and that month's historic average (based on the years 2006 to 2007). We intend to track this trend over the coming months.

For example, the table shows that each town centre has experienced a decrease in shop occupancy in October 2008 when compared to its own benchmark average figure for the same month in 2006 and 2007.

Vacant Shop Units

The average shop vacancy rates for the years 2005 to 2008 have been calculated for each of the five traditional town centres. The highest vacancy rates were experienced by Whitburn (7.7%) and Armadale (7.61%), followed by lower but similar rates for Broxburn (5.62%) and Bathgate (5.47%) with Linlithgow (3.06%) having the lowest rate.
