Economic Activity
West Lothian has traditionally had higher than average economic activity levels. There has been a culture of a significant number of school leavers choosing to go straight into the labour market (29.3% of West Lothian's school leavers went directly into employment in 2006/07 compared to 28.3% for Scotland). This, coupled with a younger than average population, explains why activity levels are relatively high in West Lothian.
