Weekly Earnings
The median weekly wage for both West Lothian and Scotland has increased during the period 2002 to 2008: from £356.30 to £420.20 for residents of West Lothian and from £369.30 to £461.80 for Scotland. Wage levels have risen faster for Scotland than West Lothian, apparently as a result of the growth experienced by the wider Scottish economy. Relatively slower wage growth in West Lothian might be accounted for by the structural shift in the economy away from skilled manufacturing jobs to low skilled service sector jobs, which tend not to pay as well.
