An Enterprising Economy

Over the last five years, West Lothian has been one of the fastest changing localities in the UK - both in terms of population and economy. West Lothian's booming economy is set to continue to outstrip the rest of Scotland according to Prospects for the Scottish Economy, an annual publication produced by Mackay Consultants. It reveals that West Lothian is likely to be the joint fastest growing area in Scotland over the next four years. Economic Growth is forecast to be 8.3% for West Lothian.

The area has reinvented itself from one characterised by heavy dependence on inward investment, manufacturing and large-scale employment, to an area reinvigorated in its efforts to promote enterprise, entrepreneurship and indigenous business. West Lothian has the mission "to become the most enterprising culture in Europe".

This section details the enterprising culture of West Lothian, the partnerships and strategies that drive it, and the pioneering work currently being undertaken through Enterprise in Education in West Lothian - Scotland's Capital of Enterprise.

Partnership

The success of any modern dynamic entrepreneurial economy depends on building smart enduring partnerships between the public and private sector. West Lothian has a strong tradition of partnership working to both address opportunity and to respond to adversity which have helped shape the economic future of the area.

Strategy

The tradition of Partnership working between agencies and with the private and voluntary sector is embedded in the process of setting strategy and delivering key services relating to enterprise.
