The Food and Drink sector is well represented in West Lothian, with well-known names such as Glenmorangie, Paterson Arran, Highlander Crisps and Grampian Pork Halls all located in the area. A recent addition to these organisations has come from the opening of a purpose built bottling plant in Livingston for the French company, La Martiniquaise. The company sought a Scottish location to enable its Glen Turner whiskey to have a more ?authentic flavour? and West Lothian provided the best solution to meet its distribution and workforce needs. West Lothian is also home to food companies operating in niche markets. Examples of these are Patisserie UK, which specialises in providing the hotel industry with desserts and cakes, and Nisha Enterprises, a wholesaler of Indian snacks and confectionery. There are currently around 3000 people employed in the Food and Drink sector within West Lothian and over three-quarters of these are employed by ten companies. The employment total for the sector accounts for almost 5% of the working population in the area.
