In recent years a wide range of youth exchanges and school visits have been undertaken to places such as Hochsauerlandkreis and Eischfeld in Germany, Holland, France, New Zealand, Pretoria in South Africa, and Eskilstuna in Sweden. Moral and humanitarian issues studied in the classroom have also been brought to life through visits to Poland and Germany where students visited concentration camps and exhibitions.
Many other international connections have been forged by schools, community organisations, sports clubs and youth groups. The championship winning West Lothian Schools Brass Band has an international following and recently travelled to Grapevine in Texas.
The range of countries and regions that West Lothian schools and organisations now have links with has increased threefold since 1999, and extend beyond the EU to include the middle east, North America, Japan, South Africa and Australasia. There are plans to expland these links, and develop relationships with places such as Moscow and the Ukraine in the near future.
