Retail Space

Image of shopping centre

West Lothian is blazing a trail as a retail centre in the Central Belt of Scotland and Livingston has fast become a Scottish hotspot for the latest in retail and shopping developments, echoing the confidence the private sector has shown in investing in other sectors of the economy.

The burgeoning retail sector boasts the McArthurGlen designer outlet in Livingston, the first in the UK to be based in a town centre. With over 100 shop units including top names such as Armani, Gap, Jaegar, Viyella, Ronit Zilkha, Ted Baker, Ben Sherman, Windsmoor and Aquascutum, a food court, coffee shops and bars, it has proved to have a significant sphere of influence attracting shoppers from throughout Scotland, and was recently ranked as one of the top shopping centres in the country.

The adjacent Almondvale Centre in Livingston also draws shoppers from across Central Scotland and includes retail chains such as BHS, River Island, Next, Woolworths, Boots, Superdrug, Dorothy Perkins, HMV and MVC.

To the east of the Centre, US supermarket giant Wal-Mart has transformed Asda at Almondvale into Scotland?s biggest supermarket. To the south and west, Land Securities 33500 sq.m of retail warehousing boasts 18 occupiers, including Homebase, TK Maxx, Toys?R?Us and an M&S foodstore.

Recent development has seen B&Q and Wm Morrison further extend the Almondvale.

Land Securities have recently received planning permission for a further extension of Almondvale Centre. The £90m project will include a further 350,000 sq ft of retail, with 2500 sq ft of lease space. For further information go to www.theelementslivingston.co.uk

Livingston?s maturity as a sub-regional centre is evident, and High Street locations throughout West Lothian's busy towns, including Bathgate, Linlithgow and Broxburn, provide a wealth of opportunity for smaller retail properties often with flexible leases.
