Macleod profits boosted by Asian sales

Tue, Apr 17 2012

Increasing demand for whisky in Asian countries has helped Broxburn's Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD) to post a jump in profits as demand increases for its flagship Glengoyne single malt.

Accounts filed at Companies House reveal that turnover for the year to 30 September 2011 jumped by 25 per cent to just under £43 million.

Sales of the Glengoyne single malt rose by 36 per cent, while exports accounted for 65 per cent of the overall growth in revenues, led by demand in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The company ? which makes whiskies including Chieftain's, Isle of Skye and Smokehead ? posted a 27 per cent jump in pre-tax profits to £5.4m.
