One of Scotland's largest independent courier companies has ramped up their Winter preparations by employing more staff and providing drivers with packs to help deal with winter weather.
Eagle Couriers has employed 20 new staff across the firm which has centres in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bathgate to help deal with bumper deliveries at this time of year. The company has not recorded any delay or reduction to services as a result of increased volumes of packages. The new recruits, 18 of which are drivers, have been hired on temporary contracts but the business hopes to retain half of those beyond the festive season. Jerry Stewart, one of Eagle Couriers directors said: "We've increased our fleet by 16% and employed more staff within the operational departments so we can stay on top of everything from deliveries to order placements and general enquiries which are equally vital to ensure the smooth running of the company. "I've been in this business for 30 years so I have plenty experience in preparing the company for periods which may be challenging for everyone, so I?m confident that we can provide a reliable service for our customers." Eagle Couriers are also prepared for bad winter weather especially given the months of deep snow in 2010. Jerry said: "All our couriers have winter packs which enable us to maintain our high levels of performance so we have been unaffected by the winter weather so far." The packs include shovels, torches, snow socks and gloves.
