Green light for Centre extension

Wed, Aug 18 2010

A 6,500 sq m extension to The Centre in Livingston has been given planning consent by West Lothian Council.

A major new retail outlet will be built on the site of West Lothian House and will form a single large unit for a new tenant.

The former headquarters of West Lothian Council was sold to The Centre owners Land Securities earlier this year for £3m. Demolition work is currently underway to clear the ground for the new build.

Replacing the office block will be a three storey retail facility to be constructed on the southern part of the site straddling the current service access road.

The shop will open onto the existing centre at Units 8-11 Almondvale Walk between the Royal Bank of Scotland and West Lothian Connected.

The northern area of the former West Lothian House site, adjacent to Terrace Roundabout, will be landscaped and will include a new public art work.

A major clothing retailer is expected to be the new tenant, with Primark being amongst the names mentioned.
