It's in the bag for Anne

Tue, Jun 30 2009

Anne Daly was an investment manager, but it's now in the bag for the Linlithgow-based businesswoman.

She has teamed up with associates to sell eco friendly bags and business has taken off.

Anne believes that culture is beginning to change in the United Kingdom, but there is still a long way to go as around 10 billion plastic bags are in use each year.

Litter, therefore, continues to cause major problems for the environment but smaller companies are now realising they can join the campaign to cut down on the use of plastic bags.

Anne said: "Bags become caught in fences, bushes and trees and end up blocking drains, trapping birds and animals and killing livestock.

"Green bags are now a way of life in Australia, where a colleague first discovered them three years ago.

"Now, many countries have introduced legislation to reduce the use of throwaway plastic bags, most notably Ireland where usage has fallen by 90 per cent."

She revealed that the sales of Go Green Bags have continued to grow despite the recession.

So has the company's profile. They were semi-finalists in the 2008 Barclays Commercial Green Leaders in Business Awards and Go Green Bags are now used by a broad cross section of the business community from small shopkeepers to major banks.

Anne added: "One of our bags replaces four plastic bags.

"Our bags also have a two year lifespan even with heavy use and the bag is then recyclable. They are manufactured at an ethical factory and can be branded for individual companies."
