The Alba Innovation Centre that helps the growth of new technology companies said that it had recorded strong growth despite "very difficult economic circumstances".
The Alba Innovation Centre in Livingston said 93 per cent of tenant companies had managed to ride out the recession and survive the past year. It said the 14 small technology companies account-managed by Innovation Centres Scotland (ICS) had achieved an aggregate 66 per cent increase in turnover to £2.8 million over the past year. The number of staff they employed had increased by 29. There were now 92 people working on the site. Tom Ogilvie, chief executive of ICS, said: "These are excellent results for everyone involved, achieved in very difficult economic circumstances. "The early stages of creating a successful enterprise are critical to its survival. The last thing would-be entrepreneurs need as they work to establish a successful business is the worst economic climate in 50 years." He added that the centre was an essential part of West Lothian's ability to bounce back from the recent demise of its electronics manufacturing sector.
