Orkell launches e-learning portal for professionals

Thu, Sep 25 2008

Livingston-based company Orkell has launched their new e-learning portal to help professionals with their Continuing Professional Development -The CPD Alliance.

The CPD Alliance is a unique initiative for delivering and sharing approved e-learning across professional bodies and industry sectors.

Developed in partnership with the relevant professional bodies, it sets the highest of standards and is the ultimate in approved web-based learning.

The CPD Alliance is available directly from the desktop and offers busy professionals a complementary means of fulfilling their professional development. It allows members to record all their online and offline CPD activity and then publish this information to the appropriate professional bodies.

According to the report 'Regulating Competencies: Is CPD Working' produced by the CPD Institute and Kingston University in 2006, the UK currently has over 5 million professionals who need to keep their skills and knowledge up to date.

Over 2 million professionals can now access The CPD Allliance from a link on their professional bodies website, including the Institute of Association Management, the Chartered Institute of Building, the Chartered Institution of Waste Management, the Law Society of Scotland and the Institute of Healthcare Management, to name just a few.
Supported and recognised by organisations such as The Open University and the Professional Associations Research Network (PARN), The CPD Alliance from Orkell helps to improve the professional development of members across various industry sectors.

It also provides a 'try before you buy' facility which allows users to undertake a sample of a course, to ensure that they are satisfied with the quality and value of the course, before buying.

'Orkell are delighted to announce the official launch of The CPD Alliance,' says Martin Avison, Orkell's Commercial Director. 'We work in partnership with a wide range of professional bodies to develop and deliver bespoke online CPD courses. However, it became apparent that what we delivered had a much wider appeal and as a result, Orkell developed The CPD Alliance - an e-learning portal which provides access to approved online courses across industry sectors.'

Jenny Paterson, Head of Update, Law Society of Scotland, said: 'Orkell have been instrumental in helping us to create our online CPD and recording system for our members and are our partner of choice. We look forward to sharing in the benefits of The CPD Alliance'

Based in Livingston, West Lothian, Orkell specialise in delivering online CPD to professional bodies across Europe. Working in association with the Open University, and corporate sponsors of PARN and the Institute of Association Management, Orkell is rapidly setting the standard for high quality, user-friendly online CPD.  As the online CPD partner of choice, Orkell delivers online CPD at no charge to the professional body and offers a totally risk-averse solution.
