The commercial refrigeration industry is thriving, if the story of Alister McLean, Managing Director of Broxburn-based Capital Cooling, is anything to go by. Alister formed his company Capital Cooling in 1996. Its function is straightforward, explains Alister: ?to supply, service and maintain commercial refrigeration equipment for many leading UK clients such as Spirit Group, Co-op, Superdrug, Burger King, McDonalds and Little Chef. We chose Broxburn principally because of the low cost, and because it?s a good location between Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling,? he says. ?Most of our staff are field-based, and Broxburn is a great commuter point.? Capital Cooling expanded into bigger premises in Broxburn with the help of a Regional Selective Assistance grant. In addition to helping with the purchase, it allowed Alister to carry out substantial refurbishment work, ?The grant really helped us get the building up to a standard to enable us to grow the business,? he explains. And grow they have. In two years, Capital Cooling?s turnover has more than doubled from £4m to £10m, and the company?s field staff are upgrading to the latest hand-held PC technology to keep in constant touch with HQ in Broxburn. ?I?m delighted with our location, our premises, and our working conditions,? concludes Alister.
