Delivering Economic Development Services in Partnership
In West Lothian economic development activity is delivered on a partnership basis, involving the Council, Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian, WL Chamber of Commerce, FE Colleges, Jobcentre Plus and other specialist organisations. The Council's Economic Development service provides a mix of policy development and customer delivery. The Business Gateway for West Lothian is managed by the Council, providing the first port of call for businesses and potential entrepreneurs looking for assistance. In addition, the Council provides targeted assistance to help job candidates re-enter the labour market, remain in work and develop their skills. West Lothian Economic Development works closely with other Council services, notably Planning and Education, which have a crucial role in securing sustainable economic growth. Some aspects of service delivery are undertaken on behalf of other agencies (such as JobCentre Plus, Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian and PSYBT) through commercially operated contracts, which add value to the delivery of an integrated service.
