Women in Business Awards

Women in Business Awards Trophy

The West Lothian Woman in Business group is now entering its tenth year. The year 2007 saw significant developments in the group, and the continuation of the Annual Awards aims to recognise the contribution made by women to the local economy.

The West Lothian Women in Business Annual Awards 2008 have three categories: The Shona Sibbald New Business of the Year, Business Woman of the Year and Female Employee of the Year.

To enter any of these awards please complete the relevant application form. All applications must be supported by a written statement from a sponsor or referee.

Entries must be completed and returned by 11 April 2008.

Business Woman of the Year Award 2008

This award aims to recognise the outstanding contribution to the local economy of women running established businesses.

Eligibility:

  • Female business owner, partner or working director
  • Business based in West Lothian

What the judges will be looking for:

  • Responsible employer
  • Personal enthusiasm and drive
  • Commercial success
  • Business achievements
  • Overcoming obstacles

The winner of the West Lothian Business Woman of the Year Award will receive a prize of £500 to be used in her business. The Award is sponsored by HBOS.

Shona Sibbald New Business of the Year Award 2008

This award aims to recognise the outstanding contribution to the local economy made by new businesses.

Eligibility: Businesses may apply providing they meet the following criteria:

  • Under female ownership, female partner or director
  • Formed between 1 January 2005 and 1 January 2007 (trading 1-3 years)
  • Based in West Lothian

What the judges will be looking for:

  • The overall strength of the business concept
  • Development of business idea
  • Potential for future growth
  • Vision for the future
  • Value to the economy

The winner of the Shona Sibbald New Business of the Year Award will receive a prize of £500 to be used in her business. The Award is sponsored by David Sibbald and family.

Woman Employee of the Year Award 2008

This award aims to recognise the outstanding contribution made by a woman in her workplace.

Eligibility:

  • Employed by a West Lothian based organisation

  • Achievements
  • Motivation
  • Enthusiasm
  • Leadership qualities

Applications can not be accepted from individual employees.

The prize of £500 for this award is sponsored by West Lothian Chamber of Commerce and West Lothian Council.

  • Membership of the West Lothian Women in Business group is not necessary to enter any of these awards.
  • All finalists will be invited to attend an interview with the judges at the end of April 2008.
  • Awards will be presented at an Awards Dinner in the Deer Park, Livingston on 29th May 2008.
  • Award winners and runners up must be prepared to take part in any publicity organised by the promoters of the awards.
  • You can only apply for one category.
  • Members of the Women in Business Steering Group, Judges and Employees of West Lothian Council Economic Development Service and Sponsors are not eligible to enter.
  • The judges' decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
