Growth in online trading has impact on IT skills, researchers say

 


28 July 2008 - Businesses and employees in the IT industry are becoming more 'savvy' in a bid to keep pace with the world of online retail.

The research by six Sector Skills Councils found that because of the growth of online trading, businesses operating outside of the IT trade are creating technology-related job roles and working more closely with IT workers. New job roles included 'online community manager' (someone who monitors Internet forums and social networks to drive traffic to a business' website) and 'multi-channel product manager' (someone who manages a product through both traditional and online channels).
